Old story, New website

Hello all, my name is Reed, and this is my blog concerning everything Lolita, be it fashion or the lifestyle.
I’ll start with who I am and why I am writing this.

I am currently attending Art College in the Southern states. I grew up near DC my whole life, and was always interested in Asian cultures-- this mostly stemmed from my god family. They are Indian, however when I was quite young (before grade school), I always remember them playing old Japanese videogames and watching (now old) anime. This introduced me at a young age to the magical world of Japan. First there was Pokemon and Yugi-oh! and Sailor Moon, then there was my growing interest in Goth fashion in middle school, then there was my discovery (in high school) whilst in a bookstore of the Gothic Lolita Bible.

Also, when I was young, I enjoyed all sorts of different books and TV shows. Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Winnie the Pooh, Law and Order, Magic School Bus, Disney movies, the Grimm Fairytales, Hans Christian Anderson, and Greek myths. My favorite movies until I was about ten were Hairspray (1988), Watership Down, Nightmare before Xmas, and Pooh's Grand Adventure.

The blog is called "Curious Looks" for three reasons. 1) Curiouser and Curiouser was already taken, 2) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is one of my favorite books, and 3) the style of lolita is very much a curious look.
As Alice would say as she fell down the rabbit hole, "Curiouser and curiouser!" In a way, the more we try to look into the lolita style as a whole, it just gets curiouser and curiouser.
In this blog, it is my goal to discuss absolutely everything involved in the Lolita 'umbrella' so to speak. That means the fashion, the lifestyle, the stereotypes, the pluses, the minuses, the sewing, the money, the sweets, and the love.
There are many other lolita blogs, but in most of them, it feels like it's geared more toward people who can afford all brand outfits and are always always dressed to the best absolutely most pink and frilly. I live in the Southern states in a really sketchy city, meaning if I am entirely too flamboyant with my frills and lace, I get yelled at and harassed. It happens a lot more than I'd care to think about. The easy solution would be to change what I wear, but as most lolitas know, that's basically an impossible concept.
So, this blog will also address the idea of dressing appropriately yet still staying a lolita. Such as how to save outfits from stains, how to make cute aprons to cover your dresses, and how to still have the charm of a Lolita without having to be completely decked out.

In a perfect world, all my outfits would be BtSSB and old Angelic Pretty, and they would make shoes that could fit my large gigantor size 10 feet, and no one would stare at me as I walked down the street with my lacy white parasol, and I wouldn't have to worry about getting art supplies on my dresses.
BUT SADLY, we live in reality. We might dress akin to princesses and characters from books, but we live in a world that is not quite ready for that.
As a result: this blog exists. For all the people who have ever enjoyed dressing in frills and lace and JSK's, and enjoy decking themselves out in glitter and knee-high socks and Mary Janes, this is for us.
